Government cashes out assets to finance the economy
This scenario is likely to be driven by continued weak global demand for oil, compounded by uncertainty about future crude market conditions due to Covid-19, highlights the latest World Bank report.
Angola will have to resort to cashing out assets - including the US$1.5 billion already drawn from the Sovereign Fund - and funding under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program to meet short-term financing needs, indicates the latest World Bank (WB) report on the national economy, entitled “Confronting the Socioeconomic Consequences of Covid-19 in Angola”, to which Economia & Mercado had access.
This scenario, according to the report that also provides an outlook for the national economy in 2021, should be driven by the continued weak global demand for oil, aggravated by uncertainty about future crude market conditions due to Covid-19, a situation that already poses a serious threat to the economic outlook of Angola, which continues to have this commodity as its main source of revenue.
